In the 18th century,
Dom Pedro I, the king of Portugal and the first Emperor of Brazil, afraid of French invasion of his colony,decided to come to Brazil to protect his colony and fell in love with Petropolis city.
Dom Pedro I decided to stay in Brazil,which was still a colony of Portugal, and declare Brazil as independent Country.
Later on, Dom Pedro I decide to go back to Portugal and his son,
Dom Pedro II, (Lord Peter II) became the second Emperor of Brazil,who stayed there and built his family and never went back to Portugal.

Hotel Cassino Quitandinha

The
Hotel e Cassino Quitandinha is the post card of Petropolis.It was build in 1944 with the purpose of to be the largest casino in Latin American.
Its sophisticate architecture style was based on the European casinos in Normandy. It can host up to 10,000 visitors simultaneously.
Popular known as Quitandinha, it works as cassino for only two years.
In 1946, the President of Brazil,Eurico Gaspar Dutra prohibited gambling,and Quitandinha works as hotel for long period of time.
Today,Quitandinha is a huge cultural center visited from the lovers of culture,luxury interior design and architecture.

The Fazenda do Corrego Seco,today runs the
Museu Imperial de Petropolis(the Imperial Museum), was Dom Pedro II's residence inherited from his father Dom Pedro I.
The
Museu Imperial de Petropolis is a neoclassical building, which currently runs the Imperial Museum.

Palacio de Cristal it was build for the purpose of housing vegetables and birds of the region.
In 18th century was a cenarium of one of the most important moments in Petropolis.A beautiful party celebration when the last slaves were free.Today exhibits several cultural events.
