            Teresopolis, in Portuguese means the city of Teresa in honor to an Empress Teresa Cristina, who was D. Pedro II’s wife, Emperor of Brazil.

The Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgaos is the third national park in Brazil where the  objective was to protect the native forest on the hillsides and the fresh water springs.
If you are adventurous, looking for direct contact with nature and love mountaineering,this is the place to visit.The Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgaos is open from May to September for mountaineering practices.

Marcelo Medeiros from the Chico Mendes Institute suggests some fun trails :

• Trilha Uricanal (Uricanal Trail) – this trail is considered easy trail.It is around  seven  miles in  length and  it takes around  four hours to walk. On the way you can find rivers and crystalline waterfalls.

• Caminho do Ouro (Gold Road)– Another easy trail with around seven miles length as well.It also takes four hours to walk. In the beautiful forest you can find the first railroad from the Brazilian Empire.

• Trilha da Pedra do Sino (Stone Bell Trail) – This trail also can be covered in approximately four hours and has around seven miles of length.The best moment in this trail is watch the Sunrise at 2263 meters above the sea level from the the highest point of the Organ Mountains, at the summit of Pedra do Sino.

• Subida do Morro do Açu( Ascent of Mount Acu) – Hard trail around five miles of length,and it takes around fours to be covered.Trilha pesada, tem 8 km e leva em torno de quatro horas para ser percorrida. The sunset at  Castelos do Açu is the highlight of the trail.

• Travessia Açu -Sino (Acu-Crossing Bell) – Another hard trail with around six miles to be covered in seven hours.This trail is considered the most beautiful trail in Brazil because at  certain point you can see the Rio de Janeiro city and its view such as, the Guanabara Bay, The Corcovado Mountain, Sugar Loaf and the Gávea Stone.
